here goes the Syawal stories..
1st Syawal : Heading to the nearest surau to perform solat sunat.
the first day started with solat sunat. right after we performed the prayer, we headed back to our hometown it took only half an hour journey. We had more than two kampungs to visit.
The first kampung, the one we missed and a place where we called real home, was located in Bandar Baharu, Kedah. The raya ritual started. I had a blast. HEAVEN, was the other word to describe the feeling. food were everywhere. i ate like a lady who had not had food to eat for few days. no one can say NO coz everyone did the same. what made me felt very bad was when the little little children handed out their hands and started begging for duit raya. haha. where to find the money. you tell me! the raya ritual continued.
On the afternoon, we convoyed to our second kampung in Selama, Perak. They welcomed us with mee kari, nasi campur + fresh meat meals + soup and soo many more. again, we enjoyed eating and chit chatting. hohoho. maybe, that's what raya meant to us, the adults. cooking, gathering, chit chatting and getting up to date to the current family news.
The second Syawal was another hectic day. As always, we would stay at my tok's house in Kedah until the second day of Syawal. We received a huge number of visitors on the second day. tak menang tangan. menu of the day was nasi briyani gam. some had to wait for their turn to sit due to limited spaces in my tok's house and some had to wait for their plate turn. haha. no enough plates in the house. mana nak tau tetamu nak exceed the plates limit. By 1.30 p.m (estimated), the rice finished and luckily, they cooked extra rice and lauk pauk. if not, ambil bau je la. kami makan bekas tetamu je la. tapi sebab makan sambil sembang, makanan sejuk terasa panas. ala-ala kenduri pulak.letih kowt jadi host. dulu zaman-zaman muda and kanak-kanak, no one would demand our hands but now, everything turned up side down. baju baru melayang naik atas pokok nyok(kelapa), tinggal suit caterer. good bye to tangan lembut ibarat puteri di hari raya. But, i personally think, that's what raya meant when you were getting older. you won't feel the raya feelings if you skipped doing the kitchen chores.
the third Syawal, we were already back in our own house in Kamunting, Perak and busy preparing for 'kenduri' preparations on the next day.
The fourth day, again, we had a small raya feast cum kenduri aqiqah. menu of the day was kampung style. ulam (petai, jering, timun), gulai ikan kering, ayam madu, kurma kambing and sambal belacan.
we had marhaban and berendoi and cukur jambul in the morning. i loved the zanji and the syair part where the message was about the responsibility of a son/daughter to his/her parents. the message was compact and precise from the story of the creation of man as mentioned in Quran till we grow up. interesting right. the tekong voice was smooth and melodious. perhaps, that's the reasons why the two babies slept soundly throughout the process till the end. the food finished by 5pm.kari tinggal kuah the late comers dapat makan kari telur ayam, as always. haha. sorry for the inconvenience.well, kami ramai saudara mara. yang lambat kena makan the left over foods la. macam kami la.the tetamu kept coming until late at night. ini senario biasa bagi orang-orang yang berkeluarga besar. letih tapi super best.
the 5th Syawal, off we went to Kuala Ketil, Kedah to visit my elder nephew. my bro's only son. the one whom we love so much. the one who keeps our thoughts and memories to our only late brother.
the end..
regards,
me
