Katakanlah: Aku berlindung kepada Tuhan manusia. Raja manusia, sembahan manusia, dari kejahatan (bisikan) syaitan yang biasa bersembunyi, yang membisikkan (kejahatan) ke dalam dada manusia.

Why has Islam given so much weight to entertainment?
by Rabab Jaffery
Every day of a believer's life must have some sort of lawful entertainment. Why has Islam given so much weight to entertainment? A man once came to Imam Ali and said that he has molded his nature in such a way that he does not feel the need for lawful pleasures in life. The Imam replied to him: "For now you do not know. Satan flows in man like bloodstream; you won't even realize when he attacks you." Even the best of pious or religious people lose interest in religion and become astray if they don't reserve a break for entertainment.
Is entertainment allowed in Islam?

FACULTY OF SPECIALTY IN HADITH
Imam Zuhri (RA) reports that Rasulullah (Assalaamu Alaykum Wa Rahmatullaahi Wa Barakaatuhu) said, ?Relax the mind time and again.? (al-Maraaseel of Imaam Abu Dawud pg.11; al-Risalah)
Sayyiduna Aliy (Radhiallaahu Anhu) has said, ?Relax the minds for they also become tired.? (Faydhul Qadeer vol.4 pg.54; Hadith4484)
Sayyiduna Abud-Dardaa (Radhiallaahu Anhu) is reported to have said, ?Verily, I relax my mind with a bit of entertainment so that it may refreshen up for the truth.? (Ibid; also refer to Kashful-Khifaa vol.1 pg.384; Hadith1398)
These narrations imply the permissibility of entertainment, however, the nature of the entertainment should not exceed the bounds of the Shari?ah, i.e. it should not entail lies, deception, music, dancing, etc.
MasyaALLAH, who did it?
Music is allowed except if temptation is feared. The voice of women could seduce the listener. Looking at female performers is always unlawful. Listening to the voice of concealed female performers is still forbidden if it evokes tempting images. He continues reasoning that looking at a beardless boy is only forbidden if there is a danger for temptation. He then likens the lawfulness of listening to a concealed female singers to looking at a beardless young boy. The rule which must be followed, then, relates to the arousal of temptation, and if this is feared, it is unlawful (1901: 235-237).
Women are thus generally perceived as more enticing than men and excitement aroused by looking is considered more powerful than excitement aroused by listening. These observations have consequences for the lawfulness of the different forms of male and female performances. Female performances are more controversial and their acceptability depends on male experience of arousal. The fact that male excitement is most strongly aroused by the eye rather than the ear also affects the various categories of female performers. Female musicians have an audience. Female singers have an audience and, at least at present, spectators. Female dancers, on the other hand, are solely eye-catchers. Female dancing is accordingly considered the most shameful form of entertainment.

Allah makes it clear that everything in our lives – the good and the bad of it– is a trial for us. How will we cope in the situation that Allah has placed for us? Will we be grateful in prosperity and patient in affliction or will we be arrogant and disobedient?
Allah says: “Every soul shall taste of death. And We will test you with evil and with good by way of trial. And to Us is your return.” [Sûrah al-Anbiyâ’: 35].
Allah says: “Every soul shall taste of death. And We will test you with evil and with good by way of trial. And to Us is your return.” [Sûrah al-Anbiyâ’: 35].
He says: “Be sure we shall test you with something of fear and hunger, some loss in goods, lives and the fruits (of your toil) but give glad tidings to those who patiently persevere. Those who, when misfortune strikes them, say: ‘Indeed we belong to Allah and to Him is our return. Those are the ones upon whom are blessings and mercy from their Lord and it is those who are rightly guided.”
[Sûrah al-Baqarah: 155]
